Welcome back Manchester!
We’re delighted to be running in-person events back in Manchester in 2023. Our ‘Reconnected’ event enables our community to network and explore our plans for this year and listen to three lightning talks featured below.
The event is kindly hosted and sponsored by Thoughtworks. Join us from 5.30pm for food, drinks and networking. The event will start at 6pm.
Agenda
5.30pm – 6.00pm – Networking, food and drinks
6.00pm – 6.10pm – Welcome back (hosted by Lee Jeffery & Kimberley Bottomley)
6.10pm – 6.30pm – Designing with Anxiety (Elisa Pasceri – Co Op)
Anxiety sucks, but we all have to deal with it. Especially when you’re on a deadline and you’re being pressured to deliver. Let’s explore a workshop technique to uncover anxiety in a safe way and design better products or services together. |
6.30pm – 6.50pm – Service design: deconstructing complexity behind the interface (Stacey Birkett – Independent contractor)
We live in a world of digital products. However, if you scratch the surface, many digital products are merely an interface to complex services that live behind the scenes. Service design can bring transparency and simplicity, but companies are often messy, so this is challenging.
In this talk, I will discuss the topic of service design and how it supports teams in achieving business and customer goals. |
6.50pm – 7.00pm – Break
7.00pm – 7.20pm – The challenges of being user-centred (Chris Burns – BBC)
We all want our teams, products and services to be user-centred, but making that happen consistently, is difficult. We all have our biases and make assumptions, often without realising that’s what we’re doing.
In this talk, Chris will talk through some of the challenges that he and his team faced whilst working with Team GBs Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches and support staff. He’ll share some of the techniques the team used to deal with difficult stakeholders and their assumptions, how they iterated multiple products quickly and how being user-centred was at the heart of everything they did. |
7.20pm – 7.30pm – Wrap up
7.30pm – 8.00pm – Networking and close
