A Product Manager’s Day Off
Being a product manager is great!
It’s a relatively new profession in the UK, but a burgeoning network of product people, user-experience experts and development teams has given us frameworks for how we can build better products that solve genuine user problems.
But it can also be tiring. Talking to users, meeting with stakeholders, running workshops, and everything in-between. The days can fill up very quickly and, as we know, it’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
This can be easier said than done.
And so this is a story of one PM’s mission to stop thinking with a product mentality for 24 hours, why this attempt was doomed for failure, and what this means for our users.
About Daniel
Daniel started his career as a Sociologist, teaching and performing research at the University of York. During this time he became fascinated with the social implications of digital technologies and their impact on lived environments. After leaving academia Daniel moved first into Project Management and then swiftly into Product Management. He has worked in partnership with organisations such as Sony, the NHS, and World Wrestling Entertainment to meet their particular product needs, from AWS infrastructure and Alexa integration to Oculus Rift headsets and social media crisis simulations. Daniel now works as a Product Owner for the Raspberry Pi Foundation, an educational charity that’s putting the power of digital making into the hands of people all over the world.
