NUX Newcastle meet-ups are kindly sponsored by Orange Bus.
The next NUX Newcastle event is on Wednesday 24 January 2018 at Campus North, Sunco House, 5 Carliol Square, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6UF.
Doors will open at 6pm for food, drinks and networking. The talk will start at 6:30.
Voice first: researching voice technology
Holly Allison and Miriam Boyles from Orange Bus will talk about recent discovery research into the use and perception of voice technology. They will:
- give an overview of what they learned and their observations
- explain the challenges of doing user research with this technology
- describe how they adapted their approach
The second half of the talk will be a design challenge. This will explore possible new use cases for voice-activated devices.
Holly is a user experience designer with a background in psychology and a stint in client services. Her favourite part of her varied role is speaking face to face with the real people behind digital services, either in workshops, usability tests or in their living room over a cuppa.
Holly is particularly interested in the crossover between psychology and design, and how UX methods and principles will translate to new mediums like voice, chatbots and VR.
Miriam is a user researcher with a varied research career. She started out as a PhD student in anthropology in 2009, where she conducted ethnographic research with older people in Southeast London. She was a health policy researcher for Newcastle University looking at ways to improve the diagnosis and management of dementia.
More recently a desire for something different and more teamwork has taken her into the world of UX. She is enjoying the faster pace and the opportunity to refine and design new approaches to meet unique research challenges.
