NUX Leeds – 5 September – Design for Life: At Home & Work

We’re back for another insightful session, and this time, we’re exploring the intersection of design and everyday life.

Our August meetup will delve into the themes of resilience in design and how design thinking can optimise both work and personal life.

We’re excited to introduce two fantastic speakers: Paul Bailey, SPARCK and Daryn Hobden, CreateFuture. Paul will share his journey as ‘#DesignThinkingDad,’ discussing how he applies design principles to enhance productivity at work and tackle everyday challenges at home. Daryn will bring his extensive experience in UX, offering valuable insights into resilience in the design process.

A huge thanks to Hippo Digital for letting us use the Hippo Campus as the venue this month. They have also kindly offered to provide food and drinks alongside Ideasmiths. This in-person event is a perfect opportunity to connect with fellow UX enthusiasts, learn from industry leaders, and gather practical insights you can apply in both your professional and personal life.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 5, 2024. Doors open at 18:00 GMT, and the event kicks off at 18:30 GMT. Don’t miss out on this chance to gain fresh perspectives on designing for resilience and life optimisation. We look forward to seeing you there!

About our Speaker – Paul Bailey

Over the last few years, Paul Bailey — also known as ‘#DesignThinkingDad’ (DTD) — has embarked on a transformative personal journey. He has evolved from a ‘Digital Designer’ constrained by traditional waterfall delivery methods to a ‘Design Consultant’ thriving in dynamic, agile environments.

About Paul’s Talk

In this engaging talk, Paul will share the valuable lessons he’s learned. Equipped with nothing more than an ample stash of post-it notes, he applies design mindsets and methods to enhance team productivity at work and to solve everyday challenges in his personal life. He’ll share insights including:

  • Strategies to break free from ‘default’ mode and creatively tackle daily frustrations.
  • Essential ‘human skills’ necessary to future-proof your career against AI.
  • The critical need for design in early years education and actions you can take to empower the next generation of change-makers.

Most importantly, he’ll attempt to answer the ultimate question: how should you respond on long journeys when kids ask, “Are we nearly there yet?” This talk isn’t only for dads, parents, or those who care for children; DTD will share practical examples on how to integrate Design Thinking into your everyday life, enabling you to create a more meaningful, creative, and playful existence.
