Getting into Accessibility in the NHS, Getting Accessibility into the NHS
Simon Davis and Will Turner are User Researchers who are working to promote greater awareness of, and attention to, accessibility issues within NHS Digital.
This isn’t a talk about how brilliantly they’ve solved problems, overcome obstacles or made the world a better place. It’s about the reality of trying to deliver services that are accessible for everyone.
Simon and Will plan to share their experiences, publicly forgive some of their colleagues, and offer some titbits of advice for anyone thinking of following in their footsteps.
About Simon and Will
Simon Davis is a User Researcher at NHS Digital, where Simon conducts accessibility and usability testing of digital and non-digital content for both health professionals and patients. His work includes delivering a 2 way messaging facility for health professionals, iterating booking information for patients to ensure it’s usable for patients with accessibility needs, and he is currently working alongside the new NHS login service to provide digital communications to patients.
Will Turner has been a User Researcher at NHS Digital in Leeds since 2016. He is a former journalist with a PhD in modern linguistics. None of these things was ever planned. Will’s interest in accessibility is less of an accident: his family represent an I-Spy bonanza of physical and cognitive impairments. He’s helping Simon to persuade more people in NHS Digital to design and build services with accessibility in mind.
