This month we’re talking content. What it is, where it’s going, why it’s so important and how to make it great.
Join us from 6:30pm for the usual food, drinks and networking, with talks from guests Ben Moran and Steven Proctor starting at 7pm.
Without content, there is no user experience
Ben will talk about how design and copywriting have adapted differently to changes in technology and digital communication over the last 10 years. He’ll discuss some of the challenges facing copywriters today and, using examples from his own work and the wider world, explore ways they can be overcome to improve workflow and the creative output of the entire design team.
Steven will talk about web management and writing for the web in government from the early noughties to now and the birth of the content designer. Steven will show examples from inside and outside government of content not written for the people reading it. He will look at what content is, what content design is, and what a content designer does and how they fit in with user-centred design.
About Ben
Ben is a freelance copywriter, but once was a graduate in product design. Combining his design roots with a love of words he’s spent the last 10 years helping businesses of all sizes develop their tone of voice, grow their social media channels, explain complex processes, launch entirely new brands, shout about new products, and reach out to new audiences.
More recently, he’s worked with agile design teams to develop new digital services for both the private and public sector.
About Steven
Steven is a content designer who works for the government. Over the past 13 years, he has written content for 14 departments on topics including climate change, fishing quotas, marine conservation, seahorses, oil spills, housing, education, transport, planning, public health, taxes and benefits.
He wants to make things as simple as possible for people, so they can find what they need, understand it easily and know what they need to do and how to do it.
